Agencies Respond to Fire Near Downtown Clarksburg

By Jeff Toquinto on August 02, 2021 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

A structure fire that was called into Harrison County 911 had engulfed a residential unit on Chestnut Street near downtown Clarksburg very late Monday afternoon.

The first call came into the 911 center at 5:59 p.m.

Black smoke could be seen rolling over the skyline through the downtown area as units from the Clarksburg Fire Department rolled onto the scene. They were joined by the Clarksburg Police Department, the Harrison County Emergency Squad and other first responders.

There was no word early on whether anyone was injured. The entire back of the structure appeared to be destroyed, while smoke rolled out of windows from the front and back of the multi-story home.

The residence in question is situated directly beside the former Produce House on the corner of Chestnut and Pike Street. A back portion of that business had damage to it, but initially it appeared as though Clarksburg Firefighters had managed to put those flames down. Damagne to nearby residential units is also possible.

The traffic coming off of U.S Route 50 onto Chestnut Street was being blocked off in the area between the fire and the former U.S. Post off that is situated across the roadway.
