Airport Economic Activity Set to Take Big Step Forward as Phase I of $2.1 Million Logistics Park Complete

The first phase of a $2.1 million project in Bridgeport is essentially complete and officials are already courting new businesses to come to town. Along with that, they are also hoping other businesses will show interest as there is plenty of room to grow.

During last weeks’ meeting of the Benedum Airport Authority, the governing body of the North Central West Virginia Airport, it was announced the new Airport Logistics Park’s first building is basically done.

For those that may not know about it, the reason may be that it is largely hidden from the public eye. It is situated along U.S. Route 50 just prior to, and on the same side of the road as, Reep Graphics. Earth work, installation of utilities and other work has been going on for months.

“The first 18,000 square foot building right next to the airport should be ready soon,” said NCWV Airport Director Rick Rock. “It’s a nice building.”

Rock said during the meeting if anyone is looking for space, this building will be built out to meet any tenant’s needs. He also said after the meeting that prospects are already interested.

“We have remained in conversation with several entities,” said Rock. “The hope is that some of the existing businesses at the airport will utilize these buildings for additional purposes, but we’re open to anyone that may want to be part of this growing business sector.”

The building, officially located at 1 Logistics Park Way, Bridgeport, is expected to be the first of three. Mayor Andy Lang reminded those at the meeting that the property was laid and designed to hold up to three 18,000 square foot buildings.

“A reminder that it is a shell building,” said Lang. “The big advantage to that is that it will be built out to what a customer needs whether it’s for offices or for specialty equipment.”

High Point Construction out of Buckhannon in the general contractor for the project.
