Another big road project is on the way to Harrison County and, like many of the others, this one will have a few impacts on U.S. Route 50.

According to West Virginia Division of Highways District 4 Engineer Jason Nelson, the Flinderation Bridge will have a substantial project starting on it, hopefully in the very near future. However, the timeline with material issues is, as always, subject for delays.

The bridge itself is not on Route 50. However, it is literally yards off of the westbound side of the United State Route heading toward Salem. The bridge is just past Wolf Summit and prior to Salem that goes onto Route 50/7.

“It crosses the Salem Ford and sits directly across from Parcs Super Store,” said Nelson of the business situated on the eastbound side of Route 50. “When you turn off of Route 50, you are essentially on the bridge.”

Barring a change in the low bidder’s bid being accepted, the project will come in at nearly $300,000. On Sept. 14, Catts Construction out of Ohio was awarded the bid for $293,000

“It’s an expansion joint replacement and the contractor will be overlaying the deck with latex concrete,” said Nelson. “It’s a substantial project.”

There will be traffic interruptions, he said. Those will be spelled out at the time of the project.
