Another sure sign that the 2015-16 school year is approaching and summer is already winding down is the announcement of new student registration at Bridgeport High School. Earlier this week, BHS Principal Mark DeFazio announced the dates and times for the upcoming registration event that is held annually the school.

 

DeFazio said the registration will take place July 28 and July 29 at the high school. The time frame on both days will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

 

No appointments are necessary for the registration. DeFazio said the event for individual students should last no longer than 20 to 30 minutes. However, he did caution that an influx of individuals all arriving at the same time on either day could result in some waiting.

 

“As always, for those that may end up having to wait we ask them to be patient,” DeFazio said.

 

The event isn’t for incoming freshmen. Instead, this is for a new student to the area.

 

“There is usually a little confusion, but this registration is for any new student that is coming to the school that is new to the feeder system,” said DeFazio. “We’re not dealing with students from Bridgeport Middle School, but kids who may have moved into the area recently.”

 

Those that come to the registration are asked to bring educational transcripts and any other records of importance they may have. Students will meet with school counselors during their visit to BHS.

 

“The purpose is to get the students a bit of a feel for the school, but the key reason is to register the student and provide them with a class schedule,” DeFazio said. “When the first day of school arrives, we want them to be ready to go.”

Although still a a few weeks away, freshman and new student orientation will be taking place on August 12 at the high school. DeFazio said it will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We hope to have a solid turnout and will have all the students and their parents meet in the auditorium,” said DeFazio. “Freshmen should receive notification of that event in the mail.”
