Once again, Bridgeport High School is selling reserved seating for the upcoming football season, according to Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Mark Jones. And once again, Jones expects the majority of the remaining seats to go quickly.

 

The school has 130 seats available. In years past a with 10 days left to the first game there would usually be as many as 60 seats that would eventually be taken in the days leading up to the first home game. The first home game this year is August 24 against Lewis County at 7 p.m.

 

Current Principal Matt DeMotto has said during previous sales that the majority are sold each year. Sometimes up to 120 of the 130 are sold since their installation. The cost to have a reserved seat with a back and an arm rest near the middle of the field for five regular season home games is $100.

 

“It’s important to note that the $100 does not include your ticket to get into the game. It guarantees you a reserved seat for the regular season home games on Friday nights,” Jones said.

 

Jones added there’s a bonus this year.

 

“The price is the same, but this year there are six home games you’ll have your seats for,” he said.

 

So why don’t all 130 sell out. DeMotto has said multiple times the majority of the unpurchased seats are in the front row. In that area, the visibility to game action isn’t as good as those in the second row and up. Also, there are occasionally a few single seats left over.

 

The 30 seats that are left are available after last year’s seat holders were offered first crack at them. With that out of the way, anyone can purchase a reserved seat.

 

Jones said proceeds raised from the seats will continue to go to the FieldTurf fund even though the new turf was recently installed. Roughly $50,000 was raised to help with the new turf through the red seats and Jones and DeMotto are confident with a longer time period that the number will be higher the next time the turf need replaced.

 

“We place those dollars in a funding account to aid the replacement of the turf,” Jones said.
