Although it’s not the full weekend of shows that were initially anticipated, Bridgeport High School will be open Sunday to allow for two showings of “Barnum.”

 

Bridgeport High School Principal Mark DeFazio said he and Harrison County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Manchin were in conversation most of the morning on the play. He said they eventually came up with a resolution – and that is to allow those invovled to participate in a community showing of the play Sunday.

 

The shows will be at the originally scheduled time Sunday. Those times are 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

 

“I have a great deal of respect for our teachers and our support personnel and I will continue to support them, but I also know how important this is for the students and how hard they have worked in preparation for the play,” said Manchin.

 

The play was initially set to be begin Friday. The Friday opening was scrapped due to the work stoppage involving teachers statewide, which left showings Saturday and Sunday. On Friday, when it was announced the stoppage would continue at least through Monday Manchin announced all schools and all extracurricular activities would be canceled.  

 

“I want to thank Dr. Manchin for his patience and understanding and allowing our students to perform because of all of their hard work and dedication,” said DeFazio. “This is for our students as well as our parents and our support staff. We hope the community comes out and supports the play and we are sold out for both performances.”

 

Tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets already sold, for both Saturday at Sunday, will be honoreod.

 

Doors will open at 1:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.

 

As for the girls sectional game tonight, Manchin released a statement on the Harrison County Board of Education Web site that addressed it and the play. Whether the game is played this evening as originally scheduled is unknown, but if not Manchin said it would not result in a forfeit by both teams.
