BHS's Next Assistant Principal, AD Likely to be Named Tonight as RCB's Jones Recommended for Job

Barring something unforeseen, Bridgeport High School should have a new assistant principal and athletic director this evening. Pending the approval of the elected members of the Harrison County Board of Education, Mark Jones will assume those duties effective immediately.

The recommednation comes from Harrison County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Manchin. It will be part of the meeting that begins today at 5 p.m. and will go well into the evening hours.

Recommendations for personnel are rarely not accepted. If that proves to be the case, Jones will assume the role previously held by Bridgeport’s new principal Matt DeMotto. As most know, DeMotto – the long-time assistant and former AD – took over for the retired Mark DeFazio.

Jones’ name may be familiar to some in the Bridgeport community, particularly on the athletic front. He recently assumed the position of baseball coach at Robert C. Byrd High School. Jones, who also taught at the Clarksburg school, taught mathematics.

The hiring, once it becomes official, will complete Bridgeport’s administrative staff of principals. The group includes DeMotto, Jones and Renee’ Mathews. Mathews took over last year for Mary Frances Smith, who also retired.

Although the hiring comes a little later than officials were hoping, it still gives Jones time to get his feet wet at the school situated along Johnson Avenue. He’ll be in place before the start of fall sports practice as well as several weeks before the start of the 2018-19 school year.

Check back to Connect-Bridgeport later for more details on the recommendation – if it goes through – and thoughts from Jones on the decision if he is able to be reached for comment.
