EDITOR'S NOTE: According to operator and manager Cody Thrasher, the business remains open as usual with regular hours. The fire that took place to a cooler was just outside the building. Customers looking to head to Cody's to eat can still do so.

A call for a structure fire at the White Oaks development Sunday afternoon was the result of a blaze, but Bridgeport Fire Chief Phil Hart said the issue wasn’t serious and the matter was contained quickly.

The initial call for the fire came in at 1:46 p.m. on the Harrison County 911 media log. The Bridgeport Police were the first on the scene followed by several units from the Bridgeport Fire Department and they all headed to the section of the development known as Shaner Drive and the White Oaks Retail Village building.

According to Hart, an extension cord had shorted out and set a cooler on fire outside of the plaza’s newest tenant Cody’s. Hart said that smoke was coming from the cooler when staff arrived on the scene of the still relatively new restaurant.

“To the best of our knowledge, there was no structural damage,” said Hart. “The damage was limited to the cooler.”

Hart said that the plastic from inside the cooler produced a lot of smoke. Because of that, he said it appeared to be a worse situation that it was, but that quick response made sure that nothing got out of hand.

“It was under control very quickly,” said Hart.

Bridgeport Police left the scene shortly after the Bridgeport Fire Department arrived and contained the situation. Anmoore EMS and other units, according to the 911 log, also responded.
