Bridgeport Police Investigating Theft of Vehicle at Area Park and Ride; Hope Public Can Provide Assistance

Bridgeport Police are asking individuals that happen to use any particular areas to park their vehicles for carpooling in designated or other areas to exercise as much caution as possible after a car was recently stolen in the city.

According to Bridgeport Police Officer A.T. Lantz, a vehicle was recently stolen from the “Park and Ride” situated just off the Satlwell Exit of the northbound lane of Interstate 79 just prior to the entrance to Joy Lane. The grand larceny incident took place either late Nov. 15 or in the morning hours of Nov. 16.

“The individual that left the vehicle there arrived back to leave to find it missing. Apparently, someone broke the glass out of the window to gain access to the vehicle,” said Lantz.

The vehicle in question was a 2010 Ford Expedition with a keypad for access on the door. Once the glass was broken, the perpetrator was able to gain entry and eventually get the break that led to the car being stolen.

“There were keys in the console and from there the individual was able to leave with it,” said Lantz. “The owner of the vehicle said the keys were not visible from the outside and were inside the console. As of now, the vehicle hasn’t been recovered.”

Lantz said the vehicle was left at the site at 10 p.m. Nov. 15. The owner arrived back at the site at 8 a.m. on Nov. 16 to find it missing.

“There’s no video or anything of that nature there,” said Lantz. “Without a vehicle, we also obviously don’t have a crime scene so it makes it difficult.”

The Expedition is white with black leather interior and black ski racks that were recently installed as well. If it’s still in the area Lantz said it could still possibly have a broken window.

“We’ve never had a problem in that area or ever had any issues other than just prior to that someone came to the department and wanted us to be aware that tools were taken out of their vehicle at around the same time,” said Lantz. “We’re hoping this is an isolated incident, but are advising anyone using that location, or others, to please try and not leave valuable items inside their vehicles if possible.”

If anyone has any information or may have noticed anything suspicious the night in question, they’re asked to contact the Bridgeport Police Department and Lantz. He can be reached at 304-848-6116.
