Bridgeport Police have released the name of the man involved in a July 13 incident at the Black Bear Express Exxon station in Charles Pointe that saw city police, fire and EMS respond to the scene.

According to Bridgeport Police Officer M.P. Hammond, the early afternoon call involved an employee that tried to stop an individual who was attempting to leave the station without paying for gas was bumped by the individual in question. The same individual, Hammond said, then struck a vehicle as well before taking off onto State Route 279 and then going onto U.S. Route 50.

Hammond said the suspect has been identified as Aaron S. Simpson, 26, of Flemington.  That same day, Simpson was located by law enforcement authorities in Taylor County.

There are currently arrest warrants on file for Simpson for leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, and failure to pay for gasoline. All three are considered misdemeanor offenses. Hammond said that at this time the arrest warrants have not yet been served on Simpson.

Bridgeport Fire Department Captain Phil Hart said at the time the individual hit by the car was “lightly grazed.” He said the individual signed off on receiving transport.
