Although the images are grainy, the Bridgeport Police Department is hoping the public can recognize an individual wanted in connection with a shoplifting event that recently took place at the Meadowbrook Mall.

According to Bridgeport Police Officer K.M. "Kris" Burgess, a male suspect is being sought for an alleged shoplifting at the mall’s GameStop location. The individual in question stole from the city store a Xbox One X gaming console.

The incident took place Tuesday, Feb. 12 at about the time the mall opened. Burgess said the time was right around 10 a.m.

“From the video surveillance we received you can clearly see him taking it from the store,” said Burgess. “The images aren’t clear, but we’re hoping someone can identify the man in question and assist us in contacting him for questioning.”

The suspect is a white male. Burgess said he appears to be in his early 20s. The officer is hoping people that aren’t sure of who the individual is, but may have an idea to key in on the clothing that he is wearing during the incident.

“The individual in question is wearing a pretty distinctive hoodie,” said Burgess. “It looks to be a hoodie with black and white digital camo sleeves along with his hat being a grey beanie.”

The property taken had a value of $399. Burgess said the shoplifting charge for a case involving an item costing that much is a misdemeanor. However, in the event the suspect is located and found guilty, if he has two previous shoplifting convictions it then becomes a felony.

“We’d certainly like to have clear images, but this is what we have to work with and it’s worked many times in the past. The public has always been a tremendous help in cases of this nature and we’re hoping someone will recognize the individual.”

If anyone recognizes the individual, Burgess is asking to be contacted. He can be reached at 304-848-6121. If he is not there, you are asked to leave a message.
