Bridgeport, Region Set to Get Blanket of Snow as Northeast Facing "Historic" Storm

Editor's Note: The following is a Nixel report from the Bridgeport Police Department from earlier - Roads are hazardous.  Please use extra caution and take your time while traveling.  Auto accidents are all over the area.  Allow time for plow trucks to treat the roads.

Although a storm being described by the National Weather Service as "historic" that will hit the Northeast later tonight and into Tuesday morning won't be hitting Bridgeport or the surrounding area, snow that is already arriving into the area is anticipated to continue to fall into tomorrow.

As is always the case when snow hits the area and accumulation occurs, Bridgeport's Public Works Department will handle city roads. The West Virginia Division of Highways will handle state and federal roads, which include roads such as Main Street, Philadelphia Avenue and Johnson Avenue among others.

While those groups are likely getting ready, the winter weather did impact Tara Small who left the Bridgeport Dairy Queen this afternoon with, ironically, a Blizzard.

"I love this type of weather," said Small, a Taylor County resident. "I may be in the minority, but there's nothing better than snowfall."

Small was getting her wish for snow as she walked up Bridgeport's Main Street. Snow was coming down in heavy, weight waves and according to the forecast from WDTV will likely continue through today.

The forecast at WDTV is calling for between 1 to 2 inches of accumulation. Most of the accumulation, they say, will take place later this evening.

Also, a winter weather advisory has been issued for a few nearby counties. Preston, Tucker and Pendleton are currently under the advisory, which  means that travel could be difficult in those areas.
