Bridgeport Set to Get Sheetz at White Oaks Near UHC

By Jeff Toquinto on June 04, 2012 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

If the City of Morgantown can have a Sheetz at each end of a bridge, then certainly the City of Bridgeport can have a Sheetz at two different intersections along Interstate 79. With a thriving Sheetz already situated less than a mile off Interstate 79’s 121 exit, there will soon be one situated at exit 124 off of the same interstate at the White Oaks development, officials recently confirmed.

The new Sheetz will be situated at the entrance point of White Oaks, according to Bridgeport Community Development Director Randy Spellman. Spellman, who said his office has not yet received a building permit for the facility, said the property in question will go from State Route 279 back to White Oaks Boulevard and go down to the area near Freedom Bank.

This will mark the second gas station facility that offers a variety of services at White Oaks. The other gas station is the Exxon located off of the Saltwell Road exit. It also will continue the rush of work taking place, including continued site work at the Courtyard by Marriott and work soon to begin on the next Progress Centre.

“Sheetz has a strong following and does a lot of business," said Vanessa Richter, White Oaks Marketing and Real Estate Manager. "Having Sheetz present in our development will definitely invite motorists to our park, who normally would not get off the interstate, and even though White Oaks is already a substantial development, we believe that the additional traffic, will encourage other businesses to build at White Oaks."

Richter said that the work on the new Sheetz should start in August. She added the new Sheetz should be open by the end of the current calendar year.

Bob Franks with Sheetz did not return multiple phone calls seeking comment. Further details, if gathered and/or needed, will be posted on Connect-Bridgeport.

Sheetz has several locations along the I-79 Corridor. As mentioned in the top paragraph, a new Sheetz is being built at the end of the Star City Bridge in Morgantown on the lane heading out of Morgantown. Already, a Sheetz exists at the opposite end of the bridge heading toward Morgantown. Recently, it was announced a new Sheetz would be going into Clarksburg, across from Veteran’s Park and the new bridge.

Editor's Note: Inside photo shows the area just past Freedom Bank and the entrance of White Oaks where the new Sheetz will be located. The entrance to United Hospital Center is on the other side of State Route 279 that is shown in the photo.
