A vehicle that apparently lost control Saturday afternoon went off the road on Main Street, went airborne and bounced off of city property before coming to rest. Fortunately for the driver of the vehicle, it’s not believed they suffered life threatening injuries, according to the Bridgeport Police.

Chief John Walker said at 2:36 p.m. Saturday, a 2004 Honda CRV traveling east on U.S. Route 50 – Main Street – began drifting to the side of the road where it struck some curbing. Walker said the vehicle lost control at that point.

“It went off the road and through a grassed area and stone wall that is just outside the city garage below (Bridgeport) City Hall. The all is only a couple of feet tall so that helped from making the situation worse,” said Walker. “The vehicle went airborne before hitting the wall and again after hitting it.”

The driver of the vehicle was a 74-year-old female from Flemington. Walker said she had visible injuries, but refused treatment from the Bridgeport Fire Department.

“Her son arrived and took her in for medical treatment,” Walker said.

The drive was cited. Walker said she was driving on a suspended license.

A portion of the wreck was captured on surveillance video. The City of Bridgeport provided the video below, which was caught on the new safe zone exchange area camera in front of the Bridgeport City Garage.
