A late morning accident along Route 73 near the Harrison-Marion County line resulted in a female driver being transported to United Hospital Center, according to Bridgeport Fire Captain Phil Hart.

“It was a one vehicle accident that went off the roadway. By the time we arrived, the patient was already out of the vehicle,” said Hart. “The patient has some abrasions and was transported to UHC for evaluation.”

Hart wouldn’t speculate on the nature of the injuries. He did say the patient was pregnant.

The vehicle in question was a silver Jaguar. Hart said the car suffered “heavy damage.”

The Bridgeport Fire Department responded to the 10:59 a.m. call as the roadway is in its first due area. The Bridgeport EMS was also on the scene and handled the transport, Hart said. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation.

Hart said the department also responded to a call for a natural gas leak on White Oaks Boulevard. However, he said it was determined the odor was actually an odor originating from the nearby Meadowfill Landfill.
