Chief John Walker Warns Residents of Man Posing as GE Representative Seeking Entry into City Homes

Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker is warning residents to be on the lookout for an individual or perhaps individuals that are attempting to gain entry into homes by way of what appears to be a scam.

“They’re not legitimate,” said Walker. “Please be vigilant and absolutely do not let them into your house.”

The scam involves an adult male who approaches a home. Walker said from there they make a sales pitch saying they’re with GE and are there to check on the home security system and need to get entry into the home in order to check.

“They even have some type of GE identification tag around their neck,” said Walker. “The male in question is making every effort to get inside the house where he goes to.”

Right now, information beyond that is limited. However, Walker said reports say he leaves the homes after not gaining entry in a small white Chevrolet vehicle. The type is unknown at this time.

The initial reports are coming in from the Lawman Avenue area. An individual has contacted Connect-Bridgeport about the situation saying they do have a home security system, but through ADT and not GE. They alerted the police.

“This could still be going on. We’re asking anyone that has this individual come to their home to not let them in and contact the police immediately,” said Walker.

Walker said to call 911. Residents can also call 304-842-8260 for the Bridgeport Police Department.
