Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker said his department is investigating a case regarding an unresponsive newborn Friday at United Hospital Center.

The child in question was two days old at the time.

“Last Friday morning we received a call regarding the situation,” said Walker. “Because of the baby’s condition, we’ve been investigating.”

Walker said at this time the child is alive. The baby’s condition is not known.

According to Walker, the baby was transferred from UHC to Morgantown. The child is currently at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

There have been no charges filed as Walker said the department is waiting on more information, including lab results, before making a determination if a crime was committed. Charges could be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.

At this time, Walker had no further information regarding the situation.
