A child was among the occupants of a silver Jeep Cherokee that slammed into a guardrail on Virginia Avenue this afternoon as part of back-to-back accidents within a hundred yards of one another.

The first accident was the worse of the two. The second, which was called out on the Harrison County 911 log at 1:42, was cleared and the vehicles were gone by 1:52, according to Bridgeport Police Deputy Chief Randy Hartley.

In the earlier accident, which was called out at 1:20 p.m., the Jeep was heading north on South Virginia Avenue where it rammed into the guardrail on the opposite side of the roadway. There was extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle.

Fire Chief Phil Hart said there were three occupants in the car, including a child. However, he said there were no emergency transports as result of the wreck. Fire officials didn't immediately have an age of the child, but said the child was not hurt.

The accident took place just prior to the Virginia Avenue intersection with Blackwell Street. The area has seen several accidents in recent years.

As to the cause of this particular accident, it was unknown. Bridgeport Officer R.L. Schuessler was handling the investigation.

The later accident, as mentioned, also had no injuries. Bridgeport Police, Fire and the Fire Department’s EMS squad were on the scene. Traffic was interrupted and was being directed by emergency service personnel as late as 2 p.m.
