A call for a working structure fire that went out this afternoon in a portion of the residential section at the main area of the Charles Pointe development didn’t turn out to be too severe, according to a Bridgeport Fire Department official.

The call for a fire at Barrington Court in Bridgeport went out at 12:35 on the Harrison County 911 log. Shortly after it was posted it was listed as a working fire.

Bridgeport Fire Department Captain Scott Wilburn said there were some issues, but as it turned out nothing actually caught on fire. However, the possibility was real that it could have happened.

“There was a heater in the garage area that was set too high. It actually heated up the garage to the point where it melted some wiring, which led to the problem,” said Wilburn. “Had the situation not been addressed you very well could have had a problem with a fire.”

Several Bridgeport units descended upon the condominium units at Charles Pointe. The building in question was one under construction directly behind the 600 Market Place Building at Charles Pointe, which is the same building whose back parking lot is used frequently for the summer farmer’s market. The condominium in the area behind that building that had the problem was under construction.

Workers were removed from the building as the situation was put under control. Wilburn said damage was limited to the area inside the garage.

Along with units from the Bridgeport Fire Department, the Bridgeport Police Department also responded to the scene.
