City Heads Back to the Auction to Unload Items with Plow Truck, Portable Basketball Hoops Topping List

By Jeff Toquinto on June 08, 2023 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Looking for a used Bridgeport Fire Department plow truck? Need a few indoor portable recreational basketball hoops? In the market for some new digital wireless back-up cameras?

If so, there is some good news for you. In fact, if you are looking for a wide range of items there is good news.

Once again, the City of Bridgeport has turned to the Web site govdeals.com to remove items that are no longer needed. And once again, those items are already drawing plenty of attention.

“State law says you have to have an auction, and this is an auction on steroid,” said City Manager Brian Newton. “In the old days, you held an auction and maybe five people would show up. This is open to anyone.”

In the last auction, there were three big ticket items including two used Bridgeport Police Department Harley Davidson motorcycles. A 2015 model sold for $9,100 and a 2007 model went for $7,000. Both prices were well above the appraised value.

The real coup for the city came with the sale of a 2015 ambulance that had the looks, but no motor. The selling price? It went for $66,000.

“This service is apparently subscribed well by the public and other municipals. I know the ambulance went to another municipal so not only are they posting items for sale here, but many of the smaller cities are buying from the larger cities.

“I think you may see that going on, particularly with some of the larger priced items,” he continued. “That could be the case with the plow truck. If a smaller town or a community needs a plow truck, or even an individual out there, this is a way to get one fast if you need it and cannot afford a new one.”

The plow truck, with 81,000 miles, that has been utilized by the fire department is a 2013 Chevrolet 2500. According to the description, it runs and drives and has no mechanical issues. The plow will be included, and the truck is being sold “as is.” It has a 6.6-liter Duramax Diesel engine and, perhaps not surprisingly, includes a siren.

Apparently, it is working. By noon Wednesday, there were already 34 bids, and the highest bid was $16,400.

Some of the other items to see action include four portable basketball hoops.

There is also a computer numerical control (CNC) milling machine, bookshelves, a box of eight new digital wireless backup cameras and plenty more.

There are a total of 25 items, according to the Web site, that are for sale by the City of Bridgeport.
