City Officials, Police Department Advise Residents that Sunday Postal Service Deliveries are Legitimate

According to Bridgeport City Clerk Andrea Kerr, residents and others concerned about seeing and receiving deliveries on Sundays from individuals identifying themselves with the United States Postal Service do not need to worry. Kerr said the Sunday deliveries are legitimate.

“My office and the Bridgeport Police Department have been receiving several calls of concern from the community due to seeing postal workers and post office trucks out delivering on Sundays,” said Kerr.

The reason for the concern stems from the fact that the USPS has had a long-standing tradition of not working on Sundays. This work, however, is unique and only involves one facet, Kerr said.

“The deliveries are for Amazon.com customers only,” said Kerr. “There is no mail or anything else being delivered.”

Kerr said the deliveries will occur in a clearly marked post office van or truck. She added that the workers will not be in standard uniform since it is considered special detail.

The Bridgeport Police Department acquired the above information and had Kerr to provide it publicly due to the concerns. Kerr added that the employees will have post office work badges on them.

Although Kerr said the deliveries are legitimate, anyone that would still have concerns about the process can contact the Bridgeport Police Department. She said the number to call is 304-842-8260.
