A call for a suspicious vehicle at the White Oaks development developed into an arrest and the discovery of thousands of dollars of marijuana, pills and cash by a Clarksburg man.

According to Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker, a call went out for a suspicious vehicle at 2:24 p.m. this afternoon at the Holiday Inn Express. The car was not moving, but was parked. Inside the car was 26-year-old Richard Malfregeot of Goff Avenue, Clarksburg.

“We called our dog over to sniff the car and he hit on it,” said Walker, who said Malfregeot was inside the car when police arrived. “After that, everything was found inside the vehicle.”

What was found inside was three and a half pounds of marijuana with a street value, Walker said, of more than $14,000. There were various brands and types of the drug in large Ziploc style bags. Along with the marijuana were 27 one milligram pills and 109 of two milligram pills of the generic Xanax. Walker estimated the value of those pills at $900.

“There are 11 other pills that we have that have not been identified,” said Walker.

While there were no firearms inside the car, there was cash. Walker said it appears to be just short of $1,000 that was recovered.

The items that were found by Bridgeport Police were not scattered in the vehicle. Instead, Walker said everything was contained inside a backpack.

Malfregeot was processed at the Bridgeport Police Department. Shortly after 5 p.m. he was taken to the Harrison County Courthouse where he was to appear before a magistrate to be formally charged.

Bridgeport Police are handling the case. Officer Shaun Fleming is handling the case. Fleming is the department’s K-9 unit head. He works with 3-year-old Gretchen, a Belgian Malinois. The drug charges are felony counts.

Malfregeot is currently in the North Central Regional Jail. His bail was set at $125,000.
