City Police ID Person Arrested for Last Week's Wreck on I-79; Awaiting Test Results after DUI Charge

An accident last week on Interstate 79 could have been much worse, but fortunately no one was injured. Bridgeport Police Officer G.T. Collins said a silver Dodge Avenger that actually came to rest on the embankment of the northbound lane of Interstate 79 nine days ago actually was driving in the southbound side before the accident took place.

“This wreck had the potential to be much worse that it turned out to be,” said Collins. “Considering the time of the day and how the vehicle in question went through traffic it’s very fortunate.”

The vehicle in question was actually part of a “Be on the Lookout (BOLO)” for alert given by area law enforcement that day. Collins said the BOLO came out when the vehicle in question was close to the Harrison-Marion county line and traveling south toward Bridgeport.

“It was just a few minutes later the dispatch went out for a wreck on the interstate and it was the vehicle that was under the BOLO,” said Collins. “The vehicle went from the southbound lane, across the median, crossed the northbound lane of traffic before coming to rest u against the embankment on that side of the road.”

The driver of the car was Clarksburg resident Eve Rainer. Collins said the female, who he said was in her early 40s, was placed in custody for suspicions of DUI.

“We are currently waiting for test results on this particular case,” said Collins.

Collins said Rainer took three standard field sobriety tests. He said she failed all three.

At the scene, Bridgeport Fire Captain Phil Hart said there was no emergency medical transport. The Bridgeport Police and Fire Departments along with the Anmoore Emergency Squad responded. The incident that took place mile marker 125 and just past the Saltwell Road exit backed traffic up in the northbound lane of I-79 all the way to the Jerry Dove Drive exit for nearly an hour.
