By Jeff Toquinto on January 26, 2015 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of State Route 131 and Saltwell Road late this morning backed traffic up and resulted in one individual being taken to United Hospital Center, according to Bridgeport Police Lt. John A..Post.

The accident took place at 11 a.m., according to the Harrison County 911 log. Bridgeport Police, Bridgeport Fire and Bridgeport EMS all responded to the scene.

The two cars involved collided in the middle of the intersection directly in front of the older of the two Exxon stations located off the Saltwell Road exit of Interstate 79. The two vehicles that were damaged were a light blue Chevrolet Cruz and a silver Hyundai Accent.

The Accent suffered severe damage to the passenger side. The impact forced the air bags to deploy. Most of the damage to the Cruz appeared to be more on the minor side and located on the front passenger side bumper area of that car.

A representative with the Bridgeport Fire Department said the injuries sustained were not life threatening. Fire officials were helping with traffic as all emergency service personnel tried to secure the scene and eventually clear the roadway. Shortly before 11:30 a.m. one lane was re-opened along Route 131 to allow traffic to get through and minutes later both lanes were opened as both cars were moved to the parking lot of the Exxon station.

The Bridgeport Police are investigating the accident.
