The Bridgeport Police Department is hoping the public can help identify an individual from a grainy video image that is part of a felony investigation. According to Officer Bladen Smart, it is a case from last year that just recently came to light.

Smart said the situation took place in August of 2020. The female they hope to identify is facing a charge of forgery and uttering.

“The victim was just recently made aware of the crime and that is why it is being reported so late,” said Smart.

The good news was there was still video footage available once it was determined a crime had taken place. The incident took place at Home Depot.

“Video footage of the female shows her pulling the check book out and using it to purchase $137.86 worth of items. The victim has not lived in the state for several years, so it is unclear how the suspect was able to obtain the check book,” said Smart.

If anyone believes they can identify the suspect, contact Smart via email at bsmart@bridgeportwv.com or call the Bridgeport Police Department at 304-842-8260 and ask for Smart.

If he does not answer, you are asked to leave a voice mail.
