What started as a routine traffic stop early last Thursday morning could end up resulting in arrests on a number of different charges, Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker confirmed.

The incident, which occurred at 3:01 a.m. on April 14, started when Bridgeport Patrol Officer A.T. Lantz pulled over a vehicle along U.S. Route 50 between the Town House East Motel and the intersection of Main Street with Emily Drive for what was basically a situation involving defective equipment. Lantz could not see the registration on the vehicle due to the light not working.

In short order, the call went from completely routine to the discovery of multiple items that are part of an ongoing investigation that could lead to the aforementioned charges Walker mentioned.

Walker said that when Lantz was questioning the driver, Melissa Arbogast of Clarksburg, the officer noticed drug paraphernalia in the car. Arbogast and two other passengers, both males, were then ordered out of the car as Bridgeport Patrol Officer J.M. Frenzel then came to assist.

Arbogast’s passengers were David Allen Weaver of Clarksburg and Christopher Weaver of Marion County. When the identities were called in, it was noted that Christopher Weaver was wanted on a capias warrant in Marion County for failure to show up for a legal proceeding.

As that was taking place, Walker said officers noticed that a pistol was shoved in the seat of the front passenger side of the vehicle. The pistol was a 9mm semiautomatic gun. After that, 18 blue pills were discovered and were eventually identified as Clonazepam, which is a generic for Klonopin. The drug is a sedative used to treat anxiety, depression and seizures.

The search of the car then yielded another gun in the back seat. This time, the gun in question was a 45 pistol.

“(Christopher) Weaver was arrested due to the capias on him. There are not formal charges, yet, on the other individuals. There are multiple charges pending on all of the individuals as the investigation continues,” said Walker.
