A single vehicle accident on State Route 76 – or Veteran’s Memorial Drive – saw a sports utility vehicle go on its side, but amazingly resulted in no serious injuries to the driver. According to Captain Phil Hart of the Bridgeport Fire Department, the female driver of the vehicle signed off on a transport to the hospital and he called her injuries “very minimal.”

The accident involved a gold Nissan Pathfinder. The vehicle ended up on its side – passenger side against the asphalt – when Bridgeport emergency service personnel arrived on the scene.

The incident was called into the Harrison County 911 center at 1:50 p.m. Dan Riggs Towing had arrived on the scene by 2:15 p.m. to assist in moving the vehicle off of the roadway.

Traffic was backed up mildly as a result of the accident. Bridgeport Police were directing traffic until such time as the road was cleared.

The area where the wreck occurred was just past Ryan Environmental and prior to reaching the developments of Lakeland Terrace and Lake Ridge. Many are familiar with the sharp turn that is part of the roadway in question.

The accident took place outside the Bridgeport city limits. The West Virginia State Police were called in to investigate the incident. Hart is asking motorists to exercise caution if heading in that area as the scene is being cleared.
