Despite Weather Change, Work Still on Schedule for September Opening of $30 Million Dominion Facility

It’s a $30 million structure covering 106,000 square feet that just had ground broken this past year. Yet, despite the size of the facility and its cost, everything appears to be on schedule for Dominion Resources’ new headquarters at the White Oaks Development.

“I think we’re where we should be in the construction phase,” said Bob Fulton, speaking for Dominion. “Our timeline to occupy the building remains the same.”

That timeline, which has been consistent throughout, is September of 2015. Fulton didn’t have an exact day, but the month has remained steady.

Work is continuing despite the recent change in weather. Fulton said materials, such as dry wall, have been brought inside the shell of the building so that work can begin on that in the near future. Once the roof is complete, which could be at any time, major interior work will begin, he said.

“The contractors are getting the roof buttoned up to really get going elsewhere,” said Fulton. “The things that are needed to allow for interior work to proceed are all but finished.”

The contractor for the work is March-Westin. The building, when complete will be four stories with a pair of two-story wings on the outer edge. Those outer edges are constructed to allow for future expansion of the building upward if needed.

Along with the work being done on site, Fulton said department heads at the Dominion facility located in downtown Clarksburg are working with staff for new equipment. Some of the equipment, according to a recent Dominion newsletter, could be aged more than 50 years.

“They really want to make sure everything is new,” said Fulton. “The purpose of meeting with the department heads is to make sure all needs are met for the new building and to help fine tune not only the ordering process for the equipment, but to help with the transition into the new building.”
