Development Continues at Charles Pointe with Filing of Permit for Work in Excess of $300,000

While new housing isn’t booming in all parts of the country and in West Virginia, Bridgeport isn’t part of that list. In fact, residential growth continues in the city.

Proof of that continued recently at the City of Bridgeport’s Community Development Office. A grading permit was filed for $309,500 for new residential units.

Not surprisingly, the development is coming in a location where it’s been prevalent for years – Charles Pointe. The new grading permit that will set the stage for new housing in the city limits is by Berkshire Circle.

Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr was pleased with the news. She also wasn’t surprised with the location for the project.

“They have been booming on the residential front in Charles Pointe now for several years and it continues to grow. The better news is that you can guarantee that as long as units will continue to be purchased you will see this continue,” said Kerr. “That’s good for the development, the city and the region.”

It also, she said, is good for the City of Bridgeport’s Comprehensive Plan. The plan is used as a development guidance tool and has been in place since the last 1990s. The most recent update of the plan discussed the needs on the residential front. Kerr said this helps meet those needs.

“The city’s comprehensive plan lists the number of units we should have within the city limits to maintain our current population and it lists the number of units needed to grow our population,” she said. “Obviously, the goal is to grow the population so any time there are additional lots being added on the housing development front it’s a sign we’re increasing our population and that’s a positive thing.”

Kerr said the grading will create approximately 15 lots. She said they will likely be townhouse-style homes similar to those on the roadway approaching the new area of development. The permit was filed by Genesis Partners (the group responsible for the development of Charles Pointe) and the work is being done by S.W. Group LLC.

The permit was filed Feb. 19. Officials from Genesis Partners could not be reached for comment.
