Downpours Result in Flash Flooding across Bridgeport

By Jeff Toquinto on June 22, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Heavy rains pounding Bridgeport and surrounding areas have left some sections of the city experiencing flash flooding and Bridgeport Director of Emergency Management Laura Pysz is asking everyone to please exercise caution.

"First off, if you don't have to be out driving during a downpour please don't go out," said Pysz. "If you are out and you see a tremendous amount of water on the roadways like some of the pictures I've seen, don't drive through it. You're only putting yourself at risk."

Pysz reminds residents that the area is under a flash flood watch until 2 a.m. What that means is that the storming and potential flooding is likely not over for Bridgeoprt and surrounding areas.

"You're going to see more severe storms hitting us and the entire region throughout the evening," said Pysz.

At 2 p.m. the Bridgeport Fire Department was dispatched to a flooded structure on Archwood Avenue. Five minutes prior to that, a call went out for a roadway obstruction on Johnson Avenue.

Pysz said anyone threatened by flooding should call 911 immediately.
