Early-Evening Accident on Main Street involving Two Vehicles Sends One Person to Hospital

Bridgeport Police are investigating a two-vehicle accident on West Main Street that took place early this evening at the entrance to the Valley Hills Shopping Plaza.
 
According to police, the two vehicles involves was a blue Honda Fit and a silver Mercury sports utility vehicle. The Mercury suffered minimal damage to the front end, while the Fit suffered extensive damage to the front end as it appeared to have hit a utility pole and came to rest near the corner of the BB&T Bank along Main Street, after hitting that structure.
 
The accident led to the passenger of the Fit to be transported by the Bridgeport EMS to United Hospital Center. Police say the injuries were not life threatening. PFC C.W. Barto was handling the investigation. Several witnesses were interviewed as it related to the incident.
 
Bridgeport Police were also busy directing traffic that resulted due to the accident. Although a turning lane provides three lanes, only one lane was open after the accident. The call came in from the Harrison County 911 log at 6:13 p.m.
 
Dan Riggs Towing was called into handle the removal of damaged vehicles.
