Expansion of Established City Business Comes with $550,000 Price Tag and Seven-Year Commitment

There’s some more good news on the economic front for the City of Bridgeport. And it involves an investment to assist an existing business to the tune of more than a half a million dollars.

According to Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr, a grading/infrastructure permit was issued last month to Energy Plaza Partners. The permit was issues Nov. 21 and was for $550,000.

The work is to be done on property situated at 35 Dunham Road, which is along Meadowbrook Road. It’s past the entrance to Pete Dye, on the same side, where it becomes a two-lane road. It’s located about a quarter of a mile past the Marion Docks site.

Andy Lang with Energy Plaza Partners, said the work is being done to assist National Oilwell Varco Tuboscope. NOV Tuboscope is a national brand located in the city that, according to their Web site, helps “you to drill safer and more efficiently, increase production and decrease downtime. With a worldwide infrastructure second to none, we offer the newest generation technologies and services for Inspection, Corrosion Control, Hardbanding, Machining, Line Pipe Connection Systems, Artificial Lift Technologies, Rope Access & Derrick Services, and Asset Management.”

“It’s an oil field service company that services the drillers for the oil and gas companies throughout the northeast,” said Lang. “They have a repair facility and they need more yard space.”

That brings in some serious upgrades, which Energy Plaza is willing to do in order to secure the company on a longer term basis. Lang said the contractor for the job will be upgrading the work area with stone, fencing and new lights that will be utilized in conjunction with storage for their materials.

“They’re making a seven-year commitment on the yard, which means they’re not going anywhere,” said Lang. “It means for us that they’re going to stay here for a while. Oilfield companies have a tendency to come and go as the market changes and as the different fields come and go for this area, but this shows stability for this area.”

The major infrastructure work is being handled by Stanley Industries who will serve as the prime contractor. The permit produced $4,450 for city coffers.
