Traffic on Main Street was problematic for nearly an hour early this afternoon following a four-car accident on East Main Street.

The accident happened on the eastbound side of U.S. Route 50 just past the Circle K and the All Saints Catholic Church. The chain reaction accident forced Bridgeport Police, led by Chief John Walker, and Bridgeport Fire Personnel to direct traffic to help ease the congestion as best as possible.

One person was transported according to Bridgeport Fire Department Lt. Richard McQuire. He said the injury was not life-threatening.

The vehicles involved included a black Honda CRV, a white Subaru Crosstrek, a blue Ford Escape and silver Chevrolet Silverado. The accident took place at 12:36 p.m.

Damage on the vehicles ranged from minor to significant. Dan Riggs towing was called in to handle the removal of those that could not be driven from the scene. Once the vehicles were taken off Main Street, traffic flow began returning to normal. By 1:15 p.m., traffic was at its usual afternoon pace along the downtown corridor in both the east and westbound lanes of U.S. Route 50.

Bridgeport Police are investigating the accident. Bridgeport Police Department PFC R.L Schuessler is handling the investigation.
