Harrison County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Rob Waybright said a man has been charged in the death of a 27-year-old woman with a Meadowbrook address that police say was currently residing in the Sardis area.

Waybright said 32-year-old Jeffrey Scott Davis has been charged with DUI causing death with reckless disregard. The charges came after a single-vehicle accident involving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer Waybright was driving early Sunday morning. The accident took place at roughly 3:30 a.m. along Gains Hollow Road in Sardis. Waybright said Davis was not the registered owner of the vehicle.

“At the time of the crash, unfortunately, the individual now deceased was entrapped. (Davis) was able to get out of the vehicle and went to a nearby farm house up the road and made contact with the residents there and asked them to report the accident,” said Waybright. “He advised the residents that he was driving, there was an accident and someone was entrapped.”

During the investigation that followed, Waybright said the residents were interviewed, as was Davis. Waybright said Davis was cooperative during the interview that took place in a staging area.

“We ran an intoxilyzer on him and it returned a positive result for alcohol,” said

The identity of the deceased has yet to be released. Waybright said he believes that will happen later today or tomorrow through Sheriff Albert Marano or one of the chief deputies.

As of 12:30 p.m. today, Davis was still being held in the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County. Bond has been set at $50,000.
