Harrison County has Another Fentanyl-Laced Heroin Overdose as Two New Brands Discovered by Police

Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker confirmed that two additional brands of fentanyl-laced heroin have been discovered in Harrison County. The brands differ from the “Jungle Killer” brand that was discovered last Thursday and led to law enforcement going public with concerns after four individuals overdosed last week.

“This, of course, is very troubling,” said Walker, who is chairman of The Greater Harrison County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force.

One of the brands led to an overdose. That would mark the fifth in Harrison County since last week.

This time, the heroin that tested positive for fentanyl is labeled “Dream Catcher,” while the other has the words “Hook me up” written in text on the heroin stamp. According to information released by the Bridgeport Police, the “Dream Catcher” was found at a local shopping facility. Media reports have that item as the food court at the Meadowbrook Mall.

“I think we did have a positive result from going public last week because one of these (Dream Catcher) was found just by someone seeing it. They called it in to the authorities,” said Walker. “They did the right thing.”

As mentioned above, the other brand was found only after an individual had overdosed. Walker said he believes that individual was revived with the drug Narcan. He was certain the individual has survived the overdose.

Today’s announcement also comes on the heels of last Friday’s drug raid of a residence in Clarksburg at the corner of Meigs Avenue and South Park Avenue. Clarksburg Police Chief Robbie Hilliard confirmed that heroin and prescription drugs were found at that location.

“We’ve not determined whether that heroin is laced with fentanyl,” said Walker. “We’ve not yet received the report back on that.”

There also have been no arrests made in that case. Hilliard indicated that arrests are pending.

According to the press release sent out, law enforcement is asking “the community not to handle any strange or foreign substance / package that may contain heroin. With this new discovery we cannot be certain how other laced heroin may be packaged or labeled.  If you discover any package that you are not familiar with, please call 911 and have law enforcement respond and retrieve the substance.  The Greater Harrison County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force and all area Law Enforcement officers are working diligently to identify the distributors of this dangerous narcotic.”

Walker is asking anyone with information or who would happen to find the items listed here to contact   304-848-7053.
