Items from Soon-to-be-Demolished City Towne House Motor Lodge can be Acquired Via On-Line Auction

By the end of the year, there will be nothing left of the Towne House West Motor Lodge that has stood for decades in Bridgeport. Demolition crews, barring something unusual, will have the building down and the site level in a few months from now.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t keep a piece of the historic building with you.

According to Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr, the city has contracted with Bridgeport-based Kaufman Realty and Auctions, which is based on Main Street in Bridgeport, to handle an on-line auction of various items left inside the structure.

“They actually came (last week) and took photos,” said Kerr.

Matt Yoder of Kafuman did the inventory of photos last Wednesday. For those wondering about the date of the auction, it’s actually “dates” of the auction. Kerr said it will be a 30-day on-line auction and it began last week.

The auction is currently up on the Kaufman Web site. Click HERE to see the items for sale.

As noted on the item, there is a time frame to complete the auction with the date shown.

“There are some new items, like televisions, and there were a few rooms that had appliances that will be up for auction,” said Kerr. “We’re also looking at wiring and pipes and cooper items, but we need to make sure they’re not deteriorated and in a poor shape before being put up for auction. There are various other items as well.”

Yoder said the auctions that are of the on-line variety go well. He anticipates this one to draw attention as well.

“They receive a lot of attention. In this day and age, the group putting items up for auction want to utilize the manner that will provide the best success rate and provide maximum dollars,” said Yoder. “This is an auction of items where the client believes it’s best to go the on-line route and that is often much more convenient. People can bid from their homes on their computers and on mobile devices. This has worked well for us and for our clients.”
