Jason Campbell Files to Run for Seat on City Council

As it stands now, there are three open seats up for Bridgeport City Council’s June election. And as of early afternoon Tuesday, there were officially three candidates that have filed to run for them.

Yesterday, Jason Campbell confirmed he will be running for one of the three seats up for grabs. The position of mayor is also up for another four-year term.

Many may recognize Campbell’s name. He is president of JCFilms Presents, which has shot multiple Christian films starring Dean Cain in the city limits.

“I just love Bridgeport. I think it’s a wonderful city,” said Campbell. “We’ve been fortunate to make almost a dozen Dean Cain films here.

“When I look at this city, I want to find a way to be involved in its growth,” the 50-year-old continued. “I would like to see more arts, more entertainment, more theatre and to provide more opportunities to get young people involved. We’ve been able to do that with our films.”

Campbell said Bridgeport has been the filming location of more Christian films than any other location in the country since JCFilms Presents started work locally. He said the community has supported him by allowing him to shoot here and he hopes by running successfully for office he can give back.

Campbell, who has lived in the city for three years now, is married to the former Heather Mudrick. Together, they are raising 10 children in what he described as a “strong blended” family unit.

As noted above, four seats are up in the election set for June 8, including that of Mayor and three seats on City Council. The positions are currently held by Lang and Council members Dustin Vincent, Robert “Bob” Greer, and John Wilson. Andy Lang is mayor. Greer and Vincent have announced they will not seek re-election.

According to City Manager Randy Wetmore, the cost to file to run is $25 and is due at the time of filing. Filing, along with paying to file, can be done no later than 4 p.m. on April 8, which is the end of the filing period.

Absentee voting applications may be requested through June 2 of 2021. All candidate packages, absentee applications, and any other information required or questions concerning the election are to be directed to City Clerk Donna Krivosky.

Krivosky can be reached at 304-842-8235. She can also be reached via email at donna@bridgeportwv.com.
