Jaws of Life Needed to Assist in Early Afternoon Wreck on Meadowbrook Road

Multiple agencies, led by the Bridgeport Police and Fire Departments, responded to a single vehicle accident that left the passenger entrapped inside his overturned truck, according to Bridgeport Fire Department Interim Chief Phil Hart.

Hart said the passenger was successfully extricated from the vehicle. However, Bridgeport Fire had to secure the vehicle – a Ford pick-up truck – and then use the Jaws of Life to cut open the roof of the vehicle.

The man was transported by the Harrison County Emergency Squad to United Hospital Center, Hart said. Hart said he did not believe the injuries were life threatening.

The wreck took place on Meadowbrook Road, more than a mile past the entrance to the Meadowfill Landfill, and near the entrance to Jack Run Road. The accident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. with the call going out on the Harrison County 911 blog at 1:22 p.m.

As for what happened, Sgt. Scott Carpenter said it was way too early to tell. He did point out that the vehicle apparently took too sharp of a turn in the area in question. Because of that, or for perhaps another reason, the vehicle came to rest on its side in a ditch just off the roadway. Carpenter said the matter remained under investigation.

Along with Bridgeport Fire and Police, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department also assisted on the scene. The accident had traffic backed up in both directions as the vehicle was being secured. Dan Riggs Towing was handling the removal of the truck from the scene of the accident.

Additional photos from the wreck coming shortly.
