It’s an international company with 34,000 employees and now part of that workforce has a new home in Bridgeport. Last month, Laboratory Corporation of America® opened up a new office location in Charles Pointe, according to Keith Hodges, the Key Account Manager for the company who serves as the sales representative for North Central West Virginia.

 

What is even better is that the new location is now the second location in Bridgeport. Already, there is an office situated at 215 West Main Street. The location, said Hodges, has been in place since at least the 1980s.

 

With shop already set up in Bridgeport and with nearby locations in Fairmont and Morgantown, one may wonder why a second location was set up at Charles Pointe. Hodges said it’s simple.

 

“With Charles Pointe combining commercial, residential and recreational opportunities in one community it was a strategic move for Labcorp to be at the forefront of the burgeoning population base,” said Hodges.

 

As the name indicates, Labcorp is involved in testing. The company itself is a pioneer in commercializing new diagnostic technologies and the first in its industry to embrace genomic testing. The company offers more than 4,000 tests that range from a standard blood analyses to more involved matters such as reproductive genetics and companion diagnostics.

 

The testing is important. According to Labcorp, more than 70 percent of all healthcare decisions on based on test results, many of which are provided by this very company. The company said their expertise is based on dedication to providing physicians with top-notch laboratory tests and services that help provide improved patient care.

 

“LabCorp is committed to assisting in the development and delivery of new laboratory tests that provide enhanced accuracy and additional clinical information. Our customers include physicians and their patients, hospitals and managed care plans, private employers, military and law enforcement agencies, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies,” according to a statement from the company.

 

Apparently, the business– with the parent company located in Burlington, NC – is doing something right. The company has annual revenues of $5.8 billion. The client list also tops out at 220,000 and is growing.
