A late morning wreck along South Virginia Avenue resulted in one transport to United Hospital Center, according to Bridgeport Fire Department officials. The call for the accident came into the Harrison County 911 center at 10:54 a.m.

The accident took place in the somewhat blind turn on Virginia Avenue where it intersects with Jefferson Street. A vehicle coming down Jefferson Street – a black Kia Rio – collided with a red Dodge Dakota Sport pickup truck that was traveling northbound toward the U.S. Route 50 intersection on Virginia Avenue.

The truck suffered minimal damage. The Kia had damage to the left front bumper. Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

The male driver of the Dakota was transported to the hospital. Bridgeport Fire Chief Robert Seccuro said the injuries were not life threatening.

As of 11 a.m., Bridgeport Police were still on the scene, but the road was re-opened in both lanes. Traffic was shut down for nearly 20 minutes as police evaluated the situation and Bridgeport Fire and EMS personnel handled their responsibilities. Bridgeport Police say the matter remains under investigation.
