Late-Morning Vehicle Fire Destroys Truck along Main Street: No One Injured as Driver has Safe Exit

No one was injured according to a Bridgeport Fire Department official, but a truck proved to be destroyed due to a late morning vehicle fire along Main Street in Bridgeport.

Lt. Steve Gallo said the truck was "absolutely" a total loss when questioned about the damage. Gallo smiled when asked as it likely didn't take an expert to determine the vehicle was beyond repair.

The good news is that outside of the loss of the truck, there doesn't appear to be any property damage. Also, the driver of the vehicle was able to get out unharmed.

"I was driving and noticed someone looking at my car a little bit strange when I was in this area and when I looked down I saw flames coming out from under the hood," the driver said.

The vehicle ended up coming to rest in the parking lot beside Glotfelty Tire Centers on the entrance to Airport Road and across from Oliverio's Ristorante. Due to the fire trucks needing to be along U.S. Route 50 traffic was being halted on the westbound side of the roadway. Bridgeport Police were directing traffic for a short time until Gallo confirmed that the situation was under control.

Several Bridgeport units responded to the scene. A member of the Stonewood Volunteer Fire Department was also on the scene assisting. As of 12:30 p.m., traffic flow was back to normal. However, the scene was still active and fire officials were still securing the scene.
