Long-Time Mon Power Employee Rob "Robbie" Garcia to Run for Bridgeport City Council

Rob “Robbie” Garcia, a long-time worker with Mon Power, has field to run for City Council in the June 9 Bridgeport Municipal Election. Garcia was the final person to file Thursday.
 
Two Council members will be elected, as well as a city recorder. Elected in June of 2011 to fill those seats for four-year terms. Those elected four years ago were Council members Darrell Bowen and Melissa S. Matheny and Recorder Mario Blount. Although changes in those positions have occurred over the past four years, each is up for election.
 
Garcia has worked for Mon Power for nearly 26 years. He moved to Bridgeport for the last year and a half and is originally from Marion County. Although not serving on any Bridgeport boards currently, Garcia has plenty of experience. He served for five and a half years on Fairmont’s City Council and was deputy mayor there for two years. Garcia also was a member of the Planning and Zoning board, the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), and the Marion County Parks and Recreation (MCPARC) board.
 
The Council candidate has two children – Jenna and Joel and two grandchildren.
 
Thursday was the last day to file for candidacy at Bridgeport City Hall by completing and filing a certificate and an accompanying $25 filing fee. The filing period started Jan. 12. Eligible to run in the nonpartisan election was any person who is a qualified voter of the City of Bridgeport, of at least 18 years of age and not under conviction of a felony or other disqualification.
 
Anyone living inside the city limits of Bridgeport may register to vote in the upcoming election. Registration can take place at the Harrison County Courthouse, 301 W. Main Street, Clarksburg, WV 26301 or by visiting www.harrisoncountywv.com/Forms/VoterReg.pdf, printing out a form and mailing to: Attn: Voter Registration Office, 306 B. Washington Ave., Clarksburg, WV 26301.
