Main Street to Get Fresh Look as Bridgeport Eye Care Set to Construct New Building, Demo Existing Site

Bridgeport’s Main Street corridor is about to once again see a substantial construction project. According to a building permit recently filed with the City of Bridgeport, an existing business is about to have an entirely new structure.

The site of Bridgeport Eye Care will soon be the site of some heavy construction. Bridgeport Community Development Director confirmed the details in the permit and said it’s a positive for the business, the city and Main Street.

“It’s always good to see an established business expand and rededicate themselves to the community,” said Spellman. “This is a highly reputable business that is re-investing tremendously within Bridgeport to serve the residents here and beyond.”

The building permit is for $725,000 and it will be a one story structure. The new building will cover 3,000-plus square feet.

“It’s not an addition to the existing building, but an entirely new building. When it’s done it will be larger than the existing building,” said Spellman.

So what will happen to the existing building?

“Once he completes the construction of the new building, they will demo the old one and then reconfigure the parking arrangement,” said Spellman. “The new building will sit deeper into the lot and have a nice modern look. This will be a new and a welcome addition to Bridgeport and Main Street and the city appreciates businesses any time they’re willing to re-invest into the community.”

Huffman Construction is the general contractor. VanNostrand Architects out of Buckhannon designed the building. Although the exact time line was unable to be confirmed, large fencing has been placed along the property lines at the existing building's location.

Many may remember the building that will soon be demolished as the original home to Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant, said Spellman. After that, there was a brief run by a local healthy foods restaurant.
