Matt DeMotto, Bridgeport High School's Long-Serving Principal, Informs Staff He's Not Returning Next Year

Long-time Bridgeport High School Principal Matt DeMotto announced he was stepping down to his staff this morning, as word began to spread shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday of his announcement.

The Harrison County Board of Education does not have an updated agenda on their Web site. Typically, official resignations that need to be considered are listed, but they are showing the agenda from the meeting held earlier this month.

The principal, however, officially confirmed it. DeMotto said he "thanked my staff and informed them that I would not be returning next year."

DeMotto has been a fixture at Bridgeport High School for years. He served as an assistant principal and athletic director prior to assuming his current position of principal. He took over from another long-time administrator, Mark DeFazio, who announced his retirement in April of 2018.

The educational career of DeMotto in Harrison County dates back more than three decades. He was a biology teacher at then Washington Irving High School.

DeMotto's depature leaves two of the three principal positions vacant. Recently, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Mark Jones stepped down to take a vice principal position at Johnson Elementary.
