The future of Bridgeport Mayor Mario Blount will be determined in roughly two weeks. An official with the United States District Court, Northern District of West Virginia in Clarksburg confirmed that a plea hearing on a recently filed information against Blount will take place Sept. 12.

The hearing is set for 11:30 a.m.  It will take place in front of District Judge Irene M. Keeley.

The scheduled hearing comes on the heels of an “information” being filed against Blount earlier this week. The filing took place August 26 and one area legal expert said that when a plaintiff, in this case the United States government, files an information it is used almost exclusively to signal a plea is in the works and a plea hearing is set to be scheduled. The same expert said almost without fail the defendant – in this case Blount – enters a guilty plea. The hearing has now be set.

The information document filed earlier this week does charge Blount with three counts. In the first count, Blount, a pharmacist, is charged – along with both of the Davis women – to “knowingly, and intentionally possess with intent to distribute and to distribute Schedule II controlled substances, including but not limited to oxycodone and oxymorphone, distributed outside the scope of professional practice and not for a legitimate medical purpose. The date for this activity is listed as running from Feb. 23, 2011 to March 14, 2014.

The second count is that Blount, 51, “knowingly, and intentionally omit any material information from, any report, record and other document required to be made, kept or filed … failing to report filling a prescription for 150 oxymorphone 15 mg pills for Angela Davis.” This count has a specific date of June 5, 2013.

Count three states that Blount “unlawfully, knowingly, intentionally and without authority distribute a quantity of oxymorphone, a Schedule II controlled substance, outside the scope of professional practice … distributing oxymorphone pills to co-conspirator Angela Davis (Angie) without a physician’s prescription.” This was dated Sept. 17, 2013.

The charges are being brought by U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld’s office.

The final page of the information seeks the forfeiture of financial assets. The amount listed is $15,000.

Last week, Blount said he would have no comment on the matter. If that changed, he said he would contact Connect-Bridgeport.com.

Blount was indicted in May of last year along with Angela Davis, 51, and April Davis, 23. Both are listed as Bridgeport residents. Court records indicated both of the Davis women will enter guilty pleas in the case. Angela Davis will have a plea hearing 10 a.m. Sept. 23. No date has been set for April Davis.

Tuesday morning, Blount was serving as chairman of the Bridgeport Utility Board, which is part of the responsibilities of serving as mayor. Tuesday afternoon Blount had no comment on his status as remaining as mayor.
