Meadowbrook Mall Structure Fire Call Turns Out to be Clothing Press Steam

Nearly every apparatus in the Bridgeport Fire Department’s vehicle fleet – along with units from other departments – responded to a call for a structure fire at the Meadowbrook Mall late this afternoon. As it turned out, it was just a bunch of hot air - literally.

“There was an activated fire alarm and then security (at the mall) saw what they believed to be smoke coming out of one of the businesses,” said Bridgeport Fire Department Chief Robert Seccuro. “It was apparently steam being used inside that business as opposed to any type of fire.”

Even with the lack of any real action, the amount of units that responded managed to create a pretty unique visual. And for those who weren’t sure what was going on, it appeared as if there was a major event taking place at the mall.

Multiple emergency services personnel let those who planned on shopping know that it was okay to enter the mall. The virtual convoy of Bridgeport units was lined up on the front part of the mall just past JC Penney’s and toward Garfield’s.

The Harrison County 911 emergency log said the steam was from “a clothing press.” Along with Bridgeport, units from Spelter and Anmoore responded.
