Million-Dollar-Plus Project Between Interstate 79 and Lodgeville Road in City Looks to be Finished in June

Work is continuing on a City of Bridgeport seven-figure-plus project sandwiched between Interstate 79’s northbound land and Lodgeville Road.

Motorists driving on either roadway may have noticed the heavy work taking place. Bridgeport City Engineer Beth Fox said it is an important infrastructure project.

“This is actually phase two of a two-phased project that goes along with the wastewater headworks project that is taking place inside the wastewater treatment plant,” said Fox. “The work you are seeing is on the city’s main lift station.”

The lift station in question brings sewage directly to the wastewater treatment plant from just about every area within the Bridgeport city limits. Fox said the one major exception as far as that lift station is concerned is that it does not receive wastewater coming from the White Oaks development.

“There was a lot of I and I (inflow and infiltration of storm water) involving the station. We’re upgrading the pump there and the force main line that runs under (Simpson) Creek,” said Fox.

Along with the work, contractors are also overseeing sediment control. Those efforts can be seen by anyone that stops to take a look at the project work being done.

Green River Group is managing the project. The cost of the work is $1,139,500.

Fox said that $250,000 of the project is being funded by ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) dollars provided to the city by the Harrison Couty Commission. The Bridgeport Utility Board’s sewer fund dollars are covering the rest.

The project would likely have been completed, but Fox said it was delayed a couple of months due to ongoing delays in getting equipment that has plagued projects nationally since the COVID pandemic. She said they are anticipating a June completion.

Also, there is no impact on customers. Fox said city workers installed a bypass line so collection through the sewer system was not interrupted.
