NCWV Airport to Have Summer Destination Flights for Second Year to Myrtle Beach Starting on June 3, 2016

It’s back.

Less than a month after North Central West Virginia Airport Director Rick Rock said following a meeting of the Benedum Airport Authority he was confident that destination flights to Myrtle Beach would be resumed this summer, official word came out today that such is the case.  Seasonal service will resume in June and customers can now book their Myrtle Beach vacation directly on the company’s Web site (www.allegiantair.com).

“We’re greatly excited about this said Rock and we kind of had a really strong feeling that they were coming back,” said Rock. “Our numbers of booking 93 percent of the flights in our first year did it. When you combine some of the numbers with the work members of our Authority do to help with flight service I really felt good this would happen.”

One of those individuals that has helped with flight service growth in recent year is long-time Authority member and current President Ron Watson. Watson was also pleased with today’s news.

“I cannot express how excited we are to be welcoming back flights to Myrtle Beach from North Central West Virginia Airport,” said Airport Authority President Ron Watson. “The community will once again have the opportunity to fly directly to this favorite vacation destination, saving them both time and money thanks to Allegiant.”

The flight service will begin June 3 and end August 16, the same as the 2015 schedule. Flights will be offered Monday and Friday and you can reserve seats now.

“We did meet with them and asked them about extending that schedule and what we could do to extend the schedule, but we’re pleased that we’ve got it,” said Rock. “There’s a long time between now at that first flight so if there are strong advance sales maybe we can convince them to extend it. Certainly, the public has been huge with our Allegiant flights and they see that this market supports destination service.”

Rock said the current Orlando flights are once again among the top – as far as passengers on flights – in Allegiant’s schedule. The Bridgeport to Orlando Sanford International Airport’s next two flights out of this city, for example have 176 and 172 seats reserved. And Rock said that is on a jet that seats 177 passengers.

“That’s pretty near at full capacity,” he said. “One of the things Allegiants sees is the amount of tickets being sold and advance purchases and how far things are being booked. If the community continues to support these flights I think our chances of maintaining, expanding or even adding increases.”
