New Businesses Coming Soon? Main Street Buildings in Heart of Downtown Scheduled to be Auctioned

Over the course of the last few years, some of the oldest buildings in Bridgeport’s downtown have been auctioned off. The results have seen those building revitalized and either host new businesses or new residences.

Next month, more buildings will be going up for auction. Jordan Kiger of Joe R. Pyle Complete Auction & Realty Service confirmed that their company will auction off a pair of buildings in the hart of the Main Street corridor.

The buildings will be auctioned as part of an online and in-person auction Saturday, April 24 beginning at 11 a.m. Registration and inspection will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The buildings sit at 126 West Main Street and 130 West Main Street. To the lay person, those addresses may not mean a lot, but they have been home to businesses for several years, Kiger said.

“Mr. Harold Yost operated out of there (126 West Main Street) for 45 years practicing law,” said Kiger. “His building is the smaller of the two buildings. He has served the community extremely well.”

The other building is located directly beside it. For years, it housed Granddad’s Antiques.

“The businesses in those buildings are gone; both are vacant,” said Kiger.

The building occupied for decades by Mr. Yost comes with four-plus parking spaces, a reception and waiting room area, executive office and conference room, kitchenette and utility rooms, a full bath and has a gas forced air furnace.

The second building includes a remodeled storefront, retail space, four offices and an executive office, a full bath, kitchenette, utility and storage rooms, and gas force air furnace with central air conditioning.

“It has been remodeled within the last five years,” said Kiger of the 126 West Main Street building. “That including flooring and lighting all the way throughout with fresh paint as well.”

While the listing on the Joe R. Pyle Web site does not list parking with the 126 West Main Street building, there is parking right across the street. The location is situated almost directly across from the Bridgeport Main Street Fire Department and Yost’s former office building sits right before the Lloyd Lang Memorial Bridge.

There will also be personal property that will be auctioned off separately that day. Kiger said it will include plenty of antiques, a nice collection of oak stacking bookcases, glassware, and more. As for the buildings, they could go separately or as a pair.

Kiger is expecting a good turnout once again. The company auctioned off the property at 132 West Main Street (the former C&H Market Building that houses apartments and Senior Audiology) in December of 2016 and in December of 2017 auctioned off the building at 140 West Main Street.

For years, the building housed the office of Dr. Susan Miller and the Hobby Stop. After it was auctioned, it was renovated, and it is now home to My Little Cupcake and Spadafore Insurance Group.

“I think we’re going to have a good turnout,” said Kiger. “The small community atmosphere Bridgeport offers and the presence of shops, including many new shops, along Main Street, adds to the small town feeling and makes property along Main Street a hot commodity to own. Main Street certainly has a lot to offer.”
