New Main Street Business Entry to City's Downtown Holds Ribbon Cutting to Officially Get things Started

Editor's Note I: This story appeared Tuesday, June 8, on Connect-Bridgeport. On Thursday, the business held an official ribbon cutting ceremony with business, city, and other officials and dignitaries in attendance. Please be sure to check out this new business that has invested in the Bridgeport community. The ribbon cutting photo is above.

There is another new business on Main Street, and it also has a really fresh look. Old Colony Realtors have opened shop on 231 East Main Street, near Oliverio’s Florist.

An official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Thursday at 3 p.m. Old Colony has been doing business for several months in the city but opted to hold the ribbon cutting this week as a massive renovation has taken place.

“The entire space has been renovated,” said Alisa Jackson, the officer manager who also serves in that capacity out of the company’s Morgantown office. “The owner of the building … turned this from what was a garage into our office.”

Work has been progressing steadily on the building and now the new business is ready to give an official start to business. If the name sounds familiar, there is a reason for that.

“We’re West Virginia’s largest real estate company with the main office in Charleston and with Joseph Miller as the broker,” said Jackson. “Old Colony has officers in Charleston, Hurricane, Beckley, Morgantown, and Huntington along with the new location in Bridgeport.”

According to Jackson, the Bridgeport location will serve as a satellite office to the Morgantown location. The reason for doing that, she said, was simple.

“We needed to have a place for those working in Bridgeport to serve our clients. We felt it was important to have a meeting or to write a contract in an office setting as opposed to going to Starbucks or McDonald’s,” said Jackson. “Bridgeport is growing, and it is a strong market, and our agents live there and are part of the community. This is a place to embrace the community feeling.”

Jackson said there are currently five agents in the office. Although visitation is by appointment only, she said there will generally be someone there from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and, like most real estate businesses, individuals can usually be reached at any time.

As for what the business does, Jackson got to the point.

“We help clients buy and sell their dream homes,” she said.

Editor's Note II: Top photo shows the Old Colony logo on the new business location window, while renovations are still ongoing as of early this week to the entire building, which is Alisa Jackson said is owned by Josh Halstead, who operates his business to the left with Old Colony being to the far right.
